Yellow Rooms Inspired by Amanda Gorman

AMANDA GORMAN HAD ME LIKE “WHOA”

Last week’s Inauguration of Joe Biden as President and Kamala Harris as Vice President brought me a renewed sense of optimism. And as if that wasn’t enough, 22-year old National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman, gave us one of the most powerful, thought-provoking, and inspiring recitations I’ve ever seen. If you missed it, it’s worth watching and reading again here. Amanda’s poem didn’t sugarcoat what’s been happening in our nation and in our world, but while acknowledging where we’ve been she also shared with us a vision for where we can go. I loved that message of optimism so much and it made me think about how I could incorporate that into a home so we could live with that uplifting message everyday. So we brought together some of our favorite yellow rooms inspired by Amanda’s poem and her yellow coat!

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF YELLOW

In the psychology of color, yellow has always been a source brightness, warmth, and happiness that can represent vitality and intelligence. These spaces invoke a similar sense of hope and energy because we could all use a little more of that in our lives. Here are some spectacular yellow spaces you can’t help but smile at!

A CHEERFUL YELLOW BATHROOM

This bathroom by the incomparable Gil Schafer is just daring you to try and have a depressing bath. It’s impossible in this uplifting yellow bathroom!

SOPHISTICATED YELLOW BEDROOM

Okay, so maybe you’re not ready to commit to that much happiness from yellow in a room. Try incorporating it in small pieces like a throw blanket and some accent pillows. But how could you resist that peak of a yellow ceiling? This project by Pierre Yovanovitch is genius.

A CREATIVE YELLOW BATHROOM

You too can inject some happiness into your own home the way Ciara Kenaston did by stenciling her bathroom walls. It’s too good, right?

LET’S GET TO WORK

We’ve all got a lot of work to do, but let’s not forget the type of world we want to create through that work. How are you going to bring optimism in your life?
