When our Principal Designer, Shaun, was ready to create a place for his Dad to stay, he knew a guest house was the right solution. The guest house was designed to stay in keeping with the main house, a 1930 Spanish Bungalow. The new construction, 380 square foot ADU, is a case study in small space design and includes a full bathroom, kitchen, and studio-style bedroom and living space.
We partnered closely with the architecture team to ensure that details from the main house were repeated outside and inside the guest house seen in the tile roof, details on the porch, and iron windows and doors. We unified the entire space with matching cabinetry and created a focal point around the bed with ample storage space. Adding the new windows and doors, split-unit heat and air conditioner, and tankless water heater, this small home is now more energy efficient than the historic main house it accompanies. Finally, the furnishings are a mix of high and low that feels collected and elevated including vintage art and rugs to add authenticity to this new space.
